Rosemary for Hair Regrowth? Here’s the Science.

Imagine swapping out your chemical hair growth product for fragrant rosemary oil, and seeing actual results. Ah yes, another big, hyped up, natural hair growth remedy….but does it actually WORK? The short answer is YES. (Keep reading for the ever-so-slightly longer version.)

Can rosemary really help your hair grow – even with alopecia, even with baldness?

According to science, yes. A recent article from the Cleveland Clinic highlights research that backs up the claims from IG and TikTok.

How’s it stack up compared to OTC topical applications like Minoxidil?

The study says it works just as well at the OTC topical stuff, with fewer side effects like itchy scalp.

How’s that work?

There is an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant rich acid (Carnosic acid, for anyone taking notes) in rosemary that stimulates and wakes up hair folicles and increases blood flow. That results in hair growth, and can even inhibit dandruff, too.

How do I incorporate it into my haircare routine?

The easiest thing to use is a few drops of rosemary essential oil, which you can mix into a carrier oil (Neem oil is my favorite for this!) and apply to your scalp – not on your hair, but rub it in. Leave it on your scalp for a few hours, then wash your hair as normal. You can also put a few drops of the rosemary oil in your conditioner, but it won’t be as potent as applying it directly to your scalp.
