These have been billed as the Neiman Marcus cookies, and whole fan fiction, urban legend situations have been built around them. Whether Neiman Marcus actually charged a cafe customer $250 for this recipe a couple of decades ago or not, who knows. But the recipe? Worth the hype, without doubt.
You’ll need:
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 3 T white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 t vanilla
- 1/2 t baking soda
- 1/2 t baking power
- 1/2 t salt
- 1 t instant espresso powder
- 1/2 C butter, softened
- 1 3/4 C All purpose flour
- About a half bag of semi sweet chocolate chips
Method:
Cream together softened butter and sugars, then add egg and mix until smooth. Mix in vanilla, salt, espresso powder, and leavening. Slowly add flour, and mix until a soft dough is formed. Fold in chocolate chips.
Drop spoonfuls of dough onto parchment covered baking sheets, and bake at 325 degrees for approximately 10 minutes. BUT – I hover around the oven starting about 8 minutes, and as soon as the bottoms of the cookies are lightly golden, they’re done. I use a spatula to peek underneath one to check. Overcook them and they won’t stay chewy, which is a cookie crime.
These cookies are the end of your perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe search. Throw the other recipes in the trash.
*There are some seriously good deals if you click the linked products – the baking soda is 98 cents! The links are affiliate links, so I might make a penny if you buy that baking soda – and it costs you zero pennies to shop with me.
Thanks for following along, and I deeply hope you make these. This is the cookie everyone will ask about: “who made these!?” And then: “can I have the recipe?” But whether you charge them $250 for it is entirely your call.
